Tour Starts at 2PM
Join Debbie Quinones, a lifelong resident of East Harlem and the founder of the Friends of Harlem Art Park Alliance and the Coquito Masters Competition. She notably served on Community Planning Board 11 for 31 years, during which she was responsible for naming 20 streets in East Harlem aka El Barrio after legendary local leaders and significant events.
Debbie's tours showcase her unparalleled knowledge of her community and its rich history. She has designed a unique walk that tells the story of East Harlem today, from its historic superblocks of public housing to the impact of major historical figures. The tour revisits moments like Vito Marcantonio’s union rally on what became Harlem’s Lucky Corner on East 116th Street and explores the legacy of the Young Lords.

This particular walk highlights how a single avenue in East Harlem can be filled with layers of history and culture. The tour will culminate at La Marqueta, but along the way, participants will see many murals, iconic buildings, and churches featured in films and the news—for example, the site where the series "401 & Park" began, and the recently established Graffiti Hall of Fame. As the group heads west towards Fifth Avenue, they will also encounter landmarks such as the Central Park Conservancy Garden, the Revolutionary War’s Fort Clinton, the Statue of Duke Ellington, The Africa Center, Old Timers Day Street, and Dapper Dan’s Atelier, before concluding their journey at La Marqueta.

Vito Marantonio annual rally on East 116 Street and Lexington Avenue has been renamed Vito Marantonio Harlem’s Lucky Corner on East 116 Street & Lexington. He served in House of Representatives for seven terms from 1934-1949.

Doris "Koya" Prester, Founder of New York My Way Tours and a former Creative Entrepreneur who launched SoHarlem's Cultural Tourism Academy in 2017, will lead a tour of Manhattanville. Koya, a lifelong resident of West Harlem, will be joined by Scott Metzner, Founder of Janus Property the developer who has transformed forgotten buildings into community gems in the Manhattanville Factory District. Scott Metzner, Founder & Principal of Janus Property will lead a tour of the West Harlem Innovate Triangle in the Manhattanville Factory District. West Side Harlem Tour will culminate with examples of today’s Dandyism fashion presented by SoHarlem Design Apprentice’s mentees at the SoHarlem Studio at 1361 Amsterdam Avenue, Corner West 126th Street, Suite 340 New York, New York 10027.
East and West Harlem Walking Tours are in conjunction with the exhibition Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
September Pop-Ups Innovative Triangle-West Harlem
This September, in collaboration with the West Harlem Arts Alliance (WHAA), This corridor of culture, features West Harlem's artists and arts organizations. SoHarlem's Creative Entrepreneurs will activate a pop-up space on the street level of the new Taystee Building. This will be a dynamic opportunity for them to sell their products, and exhibit their work on walls and mannequins.
